Longevity Gala Come celebrate Self-Help for the Elderly's 45th year serving the seniors in our community in June. Over 1,200 guests attend the annual Longevity Gala, which benefits our programs in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda Counties. Since 1966, Self-Help for the Elderly has served the seniors in the Bay Area by providing them with a comprehensive range of social, health, employment and educational services. We are pleased to announce that Jamie Davis and his All-Star Jazz Orchestra will be performing at the Self-Help for the Elderly 2010 Longevity Gala.
Jamie Davis is best known for his performance with The Count Basie Orchestra, appearing with such stars as Nancy Wilson, Patty Austin, George Benson, Wallace Rooney, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney, Dianne Reeves, Buster Williams and Jimmy Cobb. In 2002, Jamie released his first solo, ‘It’s All About Love’, on his own Jamco label. With Sam Beler and Greg Errico, Jamie formed a music company, United Music, produced ‘It’s A Good Thing’ which brought together members of the Count Basie Orchestra. Since then, Jamie has released two more albums and performed extensively at jazz festivals in Dubai, Italy, the UK, and Scandinavia as well as the Jerry Lewis Telethon, and private and corporate functions.
Fred Berry, the All-Star Jazz Orchestra’s musical director, also directs the Stanford Jazz Orchestra. Fred’s ensembles have backed world class artists at the Bay Areas’s top venues. As a professional trumpet player for 40 years, Fred has performed with the orchestras of Count Basie, McCoy Tyner, Lionel Hampton, Bennie Carter, Steve Allen, and Joe Henderson and backed such luminaries as Maria Schneider, Joe Williams, James Moody, Ernestine Anderson, and Nancy Wilson.
