Self-Help for the Elderly -- Helping Seniors Help Themselves Since 1966

Activity Center Self-Help for the Elderly is a private non-profit agency serving serniors in the San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties. We provide enjoyable activities, social services and a pleasant place for you to enjoy a hot lunch with your friends and new acquaintances. We serve healthy meals designed by our dietitian and professional caterers. Come spice up your life with interesting people, fantastic food and fun activities that will broaden your scope of life.

We welcome those who are 60 years or older and their spouses to attend our activities and enjoy hot meals at our senior centers located in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda counties.

Hot Meals for seniors

Meat, vegetables, fruit, milk and rice. Sometimes comes with soup and dessert.
  • San Francisco: $2.00 per meal (suggested donation, effective Jul 1, 2009)
  • Daly City and San Mateo: $2.25 per meal (suggested donation, effective Jul 1, 2009)
  • San Mateo Meals on Wheels: $2.50 per meal (suggested donation, effective Jul 1, 2009)
  • Santa Clara: $2.00 per meal (suggested donation)
  • Guest: $6.00 per meal

Social services Our social services provide assistance with completing forms, translation of documents and general information and referrals, which may include senior housing, Medicare, Medi-Cal, other health insurance information and Supplemental Security Income. Elder Abuse Prevention and Intervention provides care management services to victims of elder abuse, as well as community education presentations. Staff can provide assistance in Cantonese, Mandarin and English.

Wellness Program We offer periodic health screenings and health education seminars to monitor and enhance the health of low-income, disadvantaged seniors.
