Employment Training The Employment Training and Economic Development Department creates and provides training, counseling, employment and job retention for older adults with a view of enhancing their independence, self-esteem and quality of life.

Participants may enroll in classroom training programs in housekeeping and home health aide or on-the-job training in our Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP).

ETED received grants from the Mayor’s Office of Economic and Workforce Development (MOEWD), Mayor's Office of Community Development (MOCD), Employment Development Department (EDD), Human Services Agency (HSA), National Asian Pacific Center on Aging (NAPCA), Alameda County (AC), etc. We are proud to report that more than 95% have been placed successfully over a ten-year span.

Since 1972, over 3,500 older workers have been trained and placed in gainful employment through our training programs in partnership with City College of San Francisco – Chinatown/North Beach Campus (CCSF).

Housekeeping training Nine weeks of housekeeping training starts from February, August and November of each year. Graduates of the program will be certified housekeepers accredited by City College of San Francisco.

Home health aide training Eleven weeks of home health aide training starts from March and August of each year. Graduate of the program will be certified home health aides accredited by the California Department of Health Services and City College of San Francisco.

Senior community service employment program (SCSEP) The SCSEP program places unemployed low-income older adults (age 55 or above) part-time community service assignments in non-profit organizations or Government agencies to enable them to acquire or improve their job skills and experience through on-the-job training, and assist these persons in transitioning to unsubsidized employment.
