Who we are? Founded in 1966, Self-Help for the Elderly is a community-based organization committed to promoting the independence, dignity, and self-worth of seniors. Each year the agency serves over 25,000 seniors in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda Counties by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services to empower seniors to help themselves and others. Our vision is to be the premier provider of senior services in the San Francisco Bay Area with a commitment to excellence and achievement. Over 90% of our clients come from low-income minority community.

What we do? We currently have nine service departments specializing in Senior Employment & Training, Social Services, Nutrition & Senior Centers, Adult Day Services, licensed HomeCare & Hospice, Senior Housing, Technology Information & Empowerment, Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly and Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program.

We are seeking the following positions


    Adult Day Services

  • Program Aide (Temporary, On-call)
    • Conduct group activities and recreational programs as needed; provide personal care to participants under the supervision of the Register Nurses; monitor participants' physical conditions.
    • Minimum qualifications: Must pass strength test & TB clearance; CPR & First Aid certification; CA Home Health Aide certificate/Certified Nursing Assistant preferred; able to communicate in Cantonese & simple English.
    • Salary: $11.03 per hour

    • HomeCare and Hospice

    • HomeCare & Hospice Supervisor
      • Coordinate patient care services and supervise professional staff; implement the clinical polices necessary to meet community standards of home health and hospice care.
      • Minimum qualifications: Current California RN license; two years of experience within the last five years in a home health agency, primary care clinic or health facility; supervisory/administrative experience with demonstrated skills in effective communication; bilingual in Cantonese and English.

    • Medical Social Worker (Full-time/Part-time)
      • Assess and provide medical social services in home to help meet the patient’s and family’s social, emotional and economic needs in relation to the impact of health problems or terminal illness.
      • Minimum qualifications: Master of Social Work Degree from a school of social work accredited or approved by the Council on Social Work Education; minimum one year social work experience in a health care setting; bilingual in Cantonese and English.

    • Physical Therapist (Full-time/Part-time/Per Diem)
      • Full-time, part-time or per-diem physical therapists needed to provide professional physical therapy services to patients; instruct patients/families in a therapeutic regime to maximize the patient's function of body parts and muscles, and to maximize the patient's endurance; evaluate patient's functional level, muscle strength, and coordination using different functional and neurological tests.
      • Minimum qualifications: Possess current license by the Physical Therapy Examining Committee of the Medical Board of California; bilingual in Cantonese and English preferred.

    • Speech-Language Pathologist (Per Diem)
      • Per-diem speech therapists needed to provide professional speech therapy services to patients admitted to HomeCare & Hospice; assist patients in the production, reception and perception of speech and language.
      • Minimum qualifications: Possess current license by the California Board of Medical Quality Assurance.
