Who we are? Founded in 1966, Self-Help for the Elderly is a community-based organization committed to promoting the independence, dignity, and self-worth of seniors. Each year the agency serves over 35,000 seniors in San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara and Alameda Counties by providing a comprehensive range of multicultural and multilingual services to empower seniors to help themselves and others. Our vision is to be the premier provider of senior services in the San Francisco Bay Area with a commitment to excellence and achievement. Over 90% of our clients come from low-income minority community.
What we do? We currently have nine service departments specializing in Adult Day Services, Health Insurance Counseling and Advocacy Program, licensed HomeCare & Hospice, Nutrition & Senior Centers, Residential Care Facilities for the Elderly, Senior Employment & Training, Senior Housing, Social Services and Technology Information & Empowerment.

We are seeking the following positions
- Administration
- Controller
- Oversees the accounting function; manages financial reporting on funding sources. Reviews and enhances financial system to improve operational efficiency and accuracy. Assures regulatory requirements are met.
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or related field with at least 4 years of accounting management experience, preferably in non-profit or government funding. Minimum 2 years of supervisory experience. Demonstrated analytical skills on budget analysis, complex account reconciliations, creation of management dashboards, and executive summaries for management reporting.
- Salary: $70,000 - $80,000 annually
- Employment Training & Economic Development
- A+ Certification Business English/VESL Instructor (Part-time)
- Responsible for developing complementary curriculum, conducting business English and vocational ESL training, and designing classroom activities for the A+ certification and office support skills training program to support participant success in completing the program, leading to job placement.
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in education, health education, English, communication, or related field; or high school graduate with a minimum of one year experience in education and/or teaching. Teaching credential preferred.
- Salary: $15.50 - $17.50 per hour
- A+ Certification Training Instructor (Part-time)
- Responsible for providing technical training and test preparation for the A+ certification examination.
- Minimum qualifications: A+ certification required. Bachelor’s degree in education, computers, technology, adult education, English, communication, or related field; or high school graduate with a minimum of two years adult teaching, job development, or case management experience. Experience with configuring and troubleshooting hardware devices and drives, desktop and user environments, active directory, file permissions and file sharing.
- Salary: $15.50 - $17.50 per hour
- HomeCare and Hospice
- Chaplain (Per Diem)
- Responsible for implementing and coordinating all activities related to the spiritual aspects of patient care program consistent with Self-Help policies and procedures.
- Minimum qualifications: Graduate of accredited seminary or school of theology, or appropriate certification in pastoral ministry.
- Coordinator of Quality Outcomes
- Coordinate quality, utilization and risk management activities for HomeCare and Hospice; provide technical, educational, and coordinating support to clinical and administrative staff.
- Minimum qualifications: Current California RN license with at least four years of experience in Home Health or Quality Assurance (within the past five years). Demonstrated experience in quality assurance and performance improvement projects.
- Registered Nurse (Full-time/Part-time)
- Full-time, part-time registered nurse needed to provide skilled nursing care to patients meeting HomeCare’s or Hospice’s admission criteria; provide skilled nursing assessment, planning and care in order to maximize the comfort and health of patients and families.
- Minimum qualifications: Current California Licensed Registered Nurse and one year prior professional nursing experience in home health, hospice, acute or subacute; bilingual in Cantonese and English required.
- Nutrition & Senior Centers
- Director
- Responsible for the overall program management, supervision and quality assurance for the agency’s senior center and nutrition programs in the San Francisco, San Mateo, and Alameda Counties.
- Minimum qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in nutrition, social work, business administration or a related field. Master’s degree strongly preferred. Four years of experience working with older adults in a senior center or social service setting, and three years of program administration/management experience required.
- Salary: $58,000 - $62,000 annually
